KABUL: Female employees of the United Nations in Kabul have been threatened by unknown individuals, the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has confirmed this incident.
AFP quoted the UNAMA statement as saying:
“Several female UN workers in Kabul have been threatened concerning their work.”
The statement noted that due to these serious threats, the UN has implemented various measures to ensure the safety and security of its personnel.
Most of these women have been advised to stay at home, and they are currently working remotely at the direction of their organizations.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Interior has condemned such threats as criminal and stated that police are taking action against them.
Since the Taliban took power in 2021, they have imposed extensive restrictions on women and girls regarding work and education, including banning women from working in NGOs by the end of 2022.
The UN agencies have also not been exempt from these restrictions.
