Taliban welcomes Pakistan’s diplomatic upgrade

KABUL: The Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has welcomed the Pakistani government’s decision to raise its diplomatic presence in Kabul from chargé d’affaires to ambassador.

The ministry said in a statement, that in a reciprocal response, it has upgraded its diplomatic presence in Islamabad from chargé d’affaires to ambassador as well.

The statement stated: “Increasing the level of diplomatic relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan will facilitate the expansion of cooperation in various sectors between the two countries.”

Meanwhile, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, announced yesterday that Islamabad has raised its diplomatic status in Kabul.

He said that after his trip to Kabul, relations between Kabul and Islamabad are ongoing in a positive direction.

Dar added, “I am confident that this step will enhance interactions and deepen cooperation in economic, security, counter-terrorism, trade, and exchanges between the two countries.”
