KABUL: Ahmadullah Zahed, Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce for the Taliban, has requested a reduction in customs duties on Afghan export goods during a meeting with a senior Chinese customs official.

In a statement released by the Ministry, it was noted that Zahed discussed the removal of existing restrictions on Afghan exports with the Deputy Head of China’s Customs Administration.

The statement highlighted that the Chinese official emphasized Afghanistan’s high export capacity and mentioned that China has eliminated customs tariffs on Afghan exports, creating suitable opportunities for the expansion of bilateral trade.

Despite the stringent quarantine standards in China, the officials assured that China is ready to cooperate with Afghanistan.

He also confirmed that these proposals would be explored through diplomatic channels and necessary collaborations would be facilitated to the extent possible.

While China does not provide humanitarian assistance as freely as the U.S. and European countries, opening its markets to Afghan products would represent significant support for Afghanistan.
