Turkmenistan to expand cooperation with Afghanistan in railway, trade and transit

KABUL: The Acting Minister of Foreign
Affairs of the Taliban, Amir Khan Muttaqi, in a video conference with Rashid Meredov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, discussed the progress of the TAPI pipeline project.

According to Zia Ahmad Takal, head of public relations at the ministry on Wednesday, Meredov announced plans to expand practical cooperation in the areas of railways, trade, and transit in the near future, although no further details about these plans were provided.

The TAPI project is a regional gas pipeline initiative that transports natural gas from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India.

The agreement to start the project was signed in 2016 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, by representatives from Turkmenistan, the former Afghan republic, Pakistan, and India.
