The New York Times reports that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned Majtaba Khamenei, the country’s leader, that he would resign if there was opposition to a potential agreement with the United States. According to the report, a letter from former Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati urged Khamenei to approve a draft memorandum of understanding. The newspaper also says that, ahead of any signing, Mr Pezeshkian warned that a possible maritime blockade against Iran could severely damage and paralyse the country’s economy and trade.
