Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran after arriving in the Iranian capital alongside Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, to attend the funeral ceremony of former Iranian leader Ali Khamenei. According to a statement issued by Iran’s Foreign Ministry, the meeting took place on Thursday afternoon. During the talks, Muttaqi expressed his condolences over the killing of Ali Khamenei and several other senior Iranian officials, and wished “victory and prosperity” for Iran’s leadership, government, and people. The Iranian Foreign Ministry said Muttaqi also condemned what he described as the “brutal U.S.-Zionist aggression” against Iran, praising the Iranian people’s resilience and resistance in the face of what he called aggression. According to the statement, the Taliban foreign minister further stressed the importance of unity among Islamic countries in confronting what he described as “U.S.-Zionist plots.”
