Following Pakistan’s recent airstrikes on the eastern Afghan provinces of Paktia, Paktika, and Kunar, the European Union has stressed that civilians and civilian infrastructure must never be targeted. In a statement posted on X on Monday, the European Union Delegation to Afghanistan said that international humanitarian law must be fully respected under all circumstances. The EU delegation also urged all parties to exercise restraint, prevent further escalation of tensions, and prioritize the protection of civilians. The statement comes after Pakistani airstrikes reportedly struck the provinces of Paktia, Paktika, and Kunar on Sunday night, killing 36 civilians and injuring another 163 people.
