US President Donald Trump said that following the breakdown of a ceasefire and US strikes on targets in southern Iran, a renewed war could lead to the “Islamic Republic of Iran” ceasing to exist. In a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Sunday 28 June, Trump said US aircraft targeted Iranian missile and drone storage facilities, as well as coastal radar sites, in response to repeated ceasefire violations. He added: “There is a very real chance they will never learn. There may come a time when we can no longer act rationally and will have to fully complete the military mission that has been successfully started. If that happens, the Islamic Republic of Iran would no longer exist.”
