Amnesty International says the international community must not forget Afghan women and girls and must continue to support their rights and freedoms. In a message issued on Thursday June 25, the organization said that the rights, dignity, and opportunities of Afghan women must remain at the centre of global attention. Amnesty International stressed that women’s rights are human rights and that no distinction should be made between women in any part of the world. The organization added that women and girls in Afghanistan are deprived of education beyond grade six, university studies, participation in many social and recreational activities, and access to certain public spaces. It also said that women are barred from working in many non-governmental organizations and face restrictions on long-distance travel. Amnesty International urged the international community to keep the situation of Afghan women as a priority and to work to ensure their fundamental rights.
