Belgium’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday, 22 June, that it has granted visas to a five-member delegation from the Taliban government to attend a European Union migration-related meeting. According to sources, the delegation comprises five members and is headed by Abdul Qahar Balkhi, spokesperson for the Taliban Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The delegation is scheduled to travel today, June 23, from Türkiye to Brussels, the capital of Belgium. Taliban government sources told the BBC that this marks the first official visit by Taliban representatives to the European Union since their return to power in August 2021. Reuters, citing a spokesperson for Belgium’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that the visas issued are geographically and time-restricted, valid only for Belgian territory and for a single day.
