Germany’s Defence Minister Boris Pistorius says that U.S. President Donald Trump is responsible for the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, adding that recent tensions in this strategic waterway are the result of Washington’s policies. In a recent interview, Pistorius said that it was ultimately Donald Trump who facilitated the conditions for the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, not other parties, and stressed that reopening the route is important for all countries. He added that, under a preliminary agreement between Donald Trump and Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, conditions had previously been created for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and maritime traffic had gradually resumed. However, according to him, Iran closed this key maritime passage again on Saturday in response to Israeli attacks on Lebanon. The German Defence Minister also emphasized that reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring safe passage for ships is of critical importance for Europe’s energy security and the continent’s economic recovery.
