Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, said on Saturday that the United States and Iran have reached an understanding on an agreement aimed at ending the war. In posted on X, Sharif wrote that the two countries are closer than ever to achieving a peace agreement and that the deal is expected to be finalized within the next 24 hours. The Pakistani prime minister added that Islamabad is preparing for the electronic signing of the agreement within the coming day, after which technical talks between the parties will begin. Expressing optimism about a breakthrough between Tehran and Washington, Sharif said the “historic agreement” could pave the way for lasting peace in the region. He also thanked the United States and Iran for continuing negotiations and expressed gratitude to regional countries for supporting the dialogue process. Pakistan has in recent months played a mediating role between the United States and Iran in efforts to end the conflict that began on February 27. The remarks come as U.S. and Iranian officials have also indicated in recent days that the two sides are moving closer to an agreement to bring the war to an end.
