Shortly after reports emerged of an Israeli strike on the Dahiyeh area in southern Beirut, a spokesperson for Iran’s parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said the action “will not go unanswered.” Israel had earlier said it targeted what it described as a “command center” of Hezbollah in the Dahiyeh area in response to attacks by the group. Abraham Rezaei, the commission spokesperson, wrote on X that for a “decisive and painful response,” Iran would “see the skies over the occupied territories tonight.” He also told the Students News Agency that the region is in a state of “uncertainty,” adding that both the possibility of war and a potential agreement exist, although he assessed the likelihood of war as higher than that of a deal. Meanwhile, reports suggest Israel had also threatened last week to target Dahiyeh, but following threats of retaliation, contacts were held between US and Israeli officials. According to the reports, Donald Trump spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and urged him not to carry out a “major strike” on Beirut. Netanyahu subsequently ordered his forces to stand down, according to the sources.
