Al Arabiya has reported that the final draft of a possible understanding between the United States and Iran includes a 60-day ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the continuation of nuclear negotiations. According to the report, both sides are working on reducing tensions and creating conditions for longer-term agreements. The draft states that within the next 30 days, mines would be cleared from the Strait of Hormuz and commercial vessels as well as oil tankers would resume transit without paying fees. The report also said that the United States would ease part of the restrictions on Iran’s oil exports, while Iran would commit to compliance with international regulations in the Strait of Hormuz. It added that disagreements over how the Strait of Hormuz should be managed have not yet been resolved. The report further stated that Iran is prepared to transfer its enriched uranium abroad, but is seeking to send it to China and obtain guarantees from Beijing before any agreement is finalised. Donald Trump has also said that any potential agreement with Iran must be “meaningful and strong,” otherwise no deal would be reached.
