The UK Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan has said that establishing formal diplomatic relations with Kabul will only be possible if the current administration is recognised by the international community as a legitimate government. He said this process depends on concrete steps in the areas of human rights and security. Richard Lindsay made the remarks in an exclusive interview with BBC journalist Babrak Ehsas in Kabul. He said that improving security, living conditions, and the return of girls and women to education and public life are among the UK’s main priorities. He also expressed concern over the ongoing tensions between the Taliban administration and Pakistan, saying the situation could have a negative impact on regional stability.
