Russia says any decision regarding Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles belongs solely to Tehran. Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said: “Iran alone must determine the fate of its uranium stockpiles.” She added that Russia is ready to provide any assistance aimed at securing peace through negotiations between Iran and the United States, stressing that the Iran crisis can only be resolved through diplomacy. According to a report by Reuters, Moscow has proposed at least four times over the past year that Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles be removed from Iranian territory and stored in Russia. The news agency also reported that President Vladimir Putin has said Russia is ready to repeat the 2015 agreement experience regarding the removal of Iranian uranium. Meanwhile, Reuters reports that Donald Trump said negotiations with Iran are ongoing. He added that through a naval blockade, the Strait of Hormuz is effectively under US control, and that Iran’s uranium stockpiles would be destroyed if obtained. He also said the US Navy has implemented a blockade of Iranian ports, stressing that the United States does not want enriched uranium to remain in Iran and will pursue its demands by any means necessary.
