Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit China on a two-day trip, Chinese state media reported, amid deepening ties between Beijing and Moscow. China’s state news agency said on Saturday, May 16, that Putin will travel to China from May 19 to 20 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The announcement came after Kremlin officials confirmed on Friday that the Russian president was preparing for an upcoming visit to China. Putin’s trip comes a week after Beijing hosted U.S. President Donald Trump. According to reports, the Chinese and Russian leaders are expected to discuss the war in Ukraine, the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, and the situation surrounding Taiwan during their meeting. China and Russia have strengthened their relations in recent years and have adopted similar positions on issues including the war in Ukraine and U.S. sanctions against Russia.
