The third annual conference of the “Center for Freedom of Expression” was held in Toronto to mark World Press Freedom Day, bringing together more than 300 exiled journalists, media activists, academics and political figures. During the event, exiled journalists from more than 40 countries discussed the state of freedom of expression and the challenges of journalism in exile. Najib Asil, head of the Center for Freedom of Expression, said many exiled journalists are facing economic hardship, psychological pressure and difficulties in continuing their media work. Liz Dost, a senior BBC journalist, also addressed the gathering, praising Afghan journalists for documenting and reporting developments in Afghanistan and stressing the importance of supporting press freedom under difficult conditions.
