A report by the United Nations Committee Against Torture has raised concerns about the human rights situation in Pakistan, calling for an end to the mistreatment of Afghan migrants. The report highlights cases of arbitrary detention, enforced disappearances, and ill-treatment involving Afghan migrants. It urges the government of Pakistan to take immediate action to prevent such violations and to hold those responsible accountable. The committee also noted that human rights defenders, journalists, and civil society activists in Pakistan face threats and violence, creating a restrictive environment for free activity. It further expressed concern over the situation of Imran Khan, citing limitations in access to healthcare services and conditions of his detention. The United Nations reiterated the need to uphold the rights of Afghan migrants, stating that Pakistan must ensure no asylum seeker is subjected to torture or degrading treatment. The report comes amid earlier accounts of forced deportations and mass detentions of Afghan migrants.
