U.S. Senator Tim Kaine has described the idea of relocating Afghan allies of the U.S. war effort in Afghanistan from Qatar to another country as “insane,” criticizing the Trump administration for scaling back resettlement programs for these individuals. He stated that these Afghan nationals worked alongside American forces for more than two decades and were promised safety by the United States. According to him, Washington must honor its commitments. Kaine warned that breaking these promises could undermine trust in the United States and weaken future cooperation in national security efforts. Meanwhile, reports suggest that the Trump administration is considering transferring these individuals from Qatar to a third country such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo. According to estimates, around 1,100 of these Afghan allies are still being held in a camp in Qatar.
