Remarks Mohammad Mohaqiq, responding to a wave of criticism over his remarks regarding the Durand Line, has said that some critics have “attacked” him instead of engaging in rational discussion and have moved beyond fair criticism. In a post on his Facebook page, he stated that he is not afraid of dialogue or reasoned engagement, emphasizing: “Look at the televised debate on the Durand Line and judge for yourselves; I stated a truth.” Mohaqiq further claimed that certain groups, rather than engaging in scientific and logical discussion, attempt to suppress differing views and, in his words, pursue a “tradition of monopolizing speech.” He added that he will not remain silent in the face of such conditions. These remarks come after he stated in a television program that he respects internationally recognized borders and accepts the Durand Line as the official border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. His comments have sparked widespread reactions. The Durand Line remains one of the most contentious issues in Afghanistan–Pakistan relations. It was drawn in 1893 between Amir Abdur Rahman Khan of Afghanistan and a representative of British India, and it has historically been disputed by Afghanistan.
