Iran Undecided on Participation in Next Round of Talks with United States

Tehran — Iran has not yet decided whether to participate in a second round of negotiations with the United States, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on Monday. Speaking at a press conference on April 20, Baghaei stated that Iran currently has no specific plan regarding further talks. He added that despite Washington’s claims of readiness for dialogue, recent actions by the United States indicate a lack of seriousness in pursuing diplomacy. Baghaei said that Iran has faced what he described as “non-compliance” and unreliable behavior from the United States since the beginning of a ceasefire agreement. He pointed to a naval blockade and an attack on an Iranian commercial vessel as clear violations of the ceasefire, describing them as “aggressive actions.” He stressed that Iran will make its decision on continuing negotiations based on its national interests. The remarks come as Donald Trump said that U.S. representatives would travel to Islamabad for talks with Iran, a development reportedly accompanied by heightened security measures in Pakistan.
