World Bank Warns of Rising Global Hunger Risk Amid Middle East Conflicts

World Bank has warned that continued conflict and instability in the Middle East could push millions more people worldwide into hunger. Indermit Gill said in an interview with Agence France-Presse that around 300 million people are already facing severe food insecurity, a figure that could rise by up to 20% if current tensions persist. Gill noted that the most severe impact will fall on countries affected by conflict or weak governance, where prolonged instability could significantly worsen hunger crises. He added that most food currently available in markets comes from past production cycles, and the full impact of the crisis is likely to become evident in the coming months as war-related disruptions affect supply chains and agricultural output. The warning comes as ongoing conflicts in the region continue to raise global concerns over their economic and humanitarian consequences.
