US Democratic Senator Mark Kelly has described Donald Trump’s verbal attack on Pope Leo as “disgusting,” saying the former president’s war in Iran has resulted in the deaths of children. Writing on X on Monday, April 13, Kelly said he strongly condemned the remarks. Trump had earlier criticized the pope on his social media platform, accusing him of speaking out against US military actions in Iran and its immigration policies. Kelly added: “Donald Trump is flailing. His war in Iran has led to American service members being killed and wounded, and Iranian children being killed.” Previously, Trump had also said that Pope Leo was weak in dealing with “crime” and ineffective in foreign policy.
