The statement said that ongoing talks between the United States and Iran in Pakistan are seen as a potential path toward easing tensions in the Gulf region. Negotiations between U.S. and Iranian officials were scheduled to begin on Saturday afternoon in Islamabad. However, Iranian media reported that the talks would only proceed after a set of preconditions put forward by Tehran are met. Among the key conditions is a halt to Israeli military operations in Lebanon, which Iran has described as a primary requirement before negotiations can move forward.
