António Guterres has strongly condemned Israel’s large-scale and deadly attacks across Lebanon. In a statement on Thursday, Guterres said the strikes have killed and injured hundreds of civilians, including children, and caused significant damage to civilian infrastructure. He expressed concern over the rising civilian toll in Lebanon and extended his sympathy to the government and people of the country. Meanwhile, Iran has stressed that Lebanon, as one of its allies, is part of the ceasefire and that Israel must halt its attacks. At the same time, Masoud Pezeshkian said continued Israeli strikes on Lebanon constitute a clear violation of the initial ceasefire agreement and could undermine ongoing negotiations.
