The United Nations Security Council has postponed the vote on a draft resolution proposed by Bahrain regarding the use of “defensive force” to protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The vote had been scheduled for Friday, but a new date has not yet been announced. According to the Council’s agenda, the draft resolution focuses on measures aimed at ensuring the security of maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, Iran has warned ahead of the planned vote that any “provocative” action could lead to increased tensions in the region. Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, also stated that such measures could further complicate the situation. Diplomatic sources have cited the overlap with the Good Friday holiday as the reason for the postponement. At the same time, views within the Security Council remain divided. Some countries emphasize the necessity of securing maritime routes, while others have warned about the potential consequences of military actions. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes, and any developments there could have significant impacts on global markets.
