The Afghanistan national football team lost 2–1 to Myanmar in the third round of the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. The match was held at Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar, with Afghanistan as the designated home team. The first half ended 1–1 after Omid Popalzay scored for Afghanistan. However, Myanmar scored a second goal in the second half to secure the victory. Afghanistan were placed in a group with Syria, Myanmar, and Pakistan. The team had previously lost to Myanmar and Syria, while both of their matches against Pakistan ended in draws. Syria finished top of the group, while Afghanistan had already been eliminated from the qualifiers earlier.
