French Envoy: Afghan Women Must Be Included in Decision-Making

Isabelle Rome, France’s Human Rights Ambassador, said that Afghan women are not victims but survivors and fighters. In a message posted on X, she emphasized that France has always stood with Afghan women and that women must be present at every decision-making table. The French envoy added that her country rejects dialogue with the Taliban and condemns all laws restricting women’s rights. She also stated that France, together with five other countries, has initiated a request for arrest warrants for Taliban leaders at the International Criminal Court and supports the creation of an investigative mechanism to document alleged Taliban crimes. This comes as Afghan women have lost many of their fundamental rights over the past four years, including education, freedom of movement, freedom of expression, and the right to choose, and have been removed from public life in an unprecedented manner.
