Real Madrid secured a place in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals after a 2–1 victory over Manchester City in the second leg of their Round of 16 clash. The match took place on Tuesday night, March 17, at Etihad Stadium. Vinícius Júnior delivered a standout performance, scoring both goals for the Spanish side. The Brazilian forward opened the scoring in the 22nd minute from the penalty spot. Erling Haaland equalized for City in the 41st minute, but the English side’s hopes of a comeback remained slim following their heavy 3–0 defeat in the first leg. In the closing minutes, Vinícius struck again with a precise finish to seal the victory. Over the two legs, Real Madrid advanced comfortably with a 5–1 aggregate score. This marks the third consecutive season that Real Madrid have eliminated Manchester City from the competition. They will next face the winner of the tie between Arsenal and Leicester City in the quarter-finals. After the match, head coach Álvaro Arbeloa said: “This success is the result of the players’ continuous hard work and brings great joy to the team.”
