U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that any attempt by Iran to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz would be “like committing suicide.” Speaking at a press conference, Trump said that the U.S. campaign against Iran in recent days has continued “with full force,” with over 7,000 targets reportedly struck. According to Trump, “most” of these targets were military and economic facilities. He added that three missile production sites inside Iran were also targeted on the same day. The U.S. president further cautioned that if the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps undertakes mining in the Strait of Hormuz, the consequences would be severe. He noted, however, that according to U.S. military assessments, no such action has yet occurred. Trump also claimed that U.S. forces have “destroyed all 30 Iranian mine-laying vessels,” asserting that “all are now at the bottom of the sea.” Meanwhile, leaders from several European countries, including Germany, Spain, and Italy, have declined Trump’s request for military participation to ensure the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. These countries stated that they currently have no plans to deploy troops or warships to the region, emphasizing that they support efforts only through diplomatic and non-military means.
