Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, has called on Iran to immediately stop its regional attacks during a conversation with Iran’s president, Masoud Pezeshkian. On Sunday evening, March 15, Macron wrote in Persian on the social media platform X (Twitter) that direct Iranian attacks or actions carried out through proxy groups, including in Lebanon and Iraq, are unacceptable. He added that targeting the interests of France and its regional partners is also unacceptable. Macron warned that uncontrolled escalation could push the region toward chaos and bring serious consequences both now and in the coming years. The French president also said that establishing a new political and security framework is the only way to ensure lasting peace, prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, and curb its regional threats. He further called for the immediate restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and stressed that the safe return of Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris to France should take place as soon as possible.
