U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that despite Iran showing interest in negotiations to end the conflict, he is not yet prepared to reach an agreement with Tehran. Speaking in a telephone interview with NBC News on Sunday (March 14), Trump said, “Iran wants to make a deal, but I still do not see the conditions as appropriate and I do not want to enter negotiations.” During the interview, Trump also expressed doubts about the status of Iran’s new religious leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, saying he does not know whether he is alive. He added, “So far, no one has proven that he is present. I have heard that he might not be alive, and if he is alive, he should make a wise decision and surrender.” The U.S. president also claimed that American forces had destroyed large parts of Iran’s Kharg Island and suggested that further strikes might even be carried out “for fun.” Trump further emphasized that the United States and Israel had previously carried out extensive missile attacks and that such actions could continue.
