Sultan Ali Keshtmand, a former prime minister of Afghanistan and a senior figure in the People’s Democratic Party of Afghanistan, has died. His brother, Asadullah Keshtmand, confirmed the news in a post on Facebook. Keshtmand was the first member of the Hazara community to serve as Afghanistan’s prime minister, holding the position during the administrations of Babrak Karmal and Mohammad Najibullah. After the collapse of Najibullah’s government, he moved to Russia and later sought asylum in United Kingdom.
