Mike Waltz, the United States representative to the United Nations, stated that Washington doubts the Taliban’s motivation to participate genuinely in the Doha process. Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting, Waltz said building trust with a group that detains U.S. citizens and ignores the basic needs of the Afghan people is challenging. He also highlighted that the Taliban’s restrictions on women — including barring Afghan female UN staff from working in UN offices — have become a significant obstacle to the organization’s operations in Afghanistan.
