US Criticizes Detention of American Citizens in Afghanistan

Marco Rubio, the Secretary of State of the United States, said that Afghanistan has been placed on the list of countries accused of wrongful detentions. Rubio stated that the Taliban are attempting to gain political leverage from Washington by detaining American citizens. He called on the Islamic Emirate to release all detainees in Afghanistan, including Dennis Covel and Mahmood Habibi. Meanwhile, US representatives at the United Nations Security Council also criticized the Islamic Emirate over the detention of American citizens in Afghanistan.
