Ali-Reza Bigdeli, Iran’s ambassador to Kabul, says that trade between Iran and Afghanistan is continuing without interruption. In a statement released on Saturday (March 6), the Iranian Embassy in Kabul quoted him as saying that the Iranian government has introduced special facilities at border crossings to facilitate imports and exports. He added that cooperation between the two countries over the past 48 years has not been disrupted by wars or foreign interventions. Earlier, Taliban officials had also stated that the import of goods from Iran continues without delay. Following the outbreak of war in Iran, reports circulated about the possible ban on the export of some food and agricultural products from the country, raising concerns in Afghanistan. However, after the Taliban’s return to power and the increase in tensions between the group and Pakistan, Iran has become the largest exporter of goods to Afghanistan. Currently, a large share of Afghanistan’s food supplies and essential goods is imported from Iran and countries in Central Asia.
