TEHRAN: An Iranian court has sentenced Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi to several years in prison and exile. Her attorney, Mostafa Nili, announced that the Revolutionary Court in Mashhad sentenced Mohammadi to seven and a half years in prison, along with a ban on leaving the country and exile. Nili stated in a post on his social media platform that she received a six-year sentence for “organizing and conspiracy,” a year and a half for “propaganda activities,” and as an additional punishment, a two-year ban on leaving the country, as well as two years of exile to the Khosf district. He mentioned that Ms. Mohammadi informed him via phone from the security detention center in Mashhad that she was summoned to the first branch of the Revolutionary Court in Mashhad, where the verdict was delivered after the court proceedings. Narges Mohammadi and several other human rights activists were arrested in December during a gathering in Mashhad commemorating the lawyer and human rights activist Khosrow Ali-Kardi.
