KABUL: Donald Trump, the President of the United States, stated that in a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping, they discussed significant topics, including the Russia-Ukraine war and the current situation in Iran. In a message posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump described the conversation as “excellent.” He noted that the call also covered issues such as trade relations, military topics, his potential visit to Beijing in April, Taiwan, China’s purchase of oil and gas from the U.S., and an increase in agricultural product purchases, particularly soybeans, up to 20 million tons for the current season. Additionally, discussions included the delivery of aircraft engines and several other matters. The U.S. President emphasized that his dialogue with the Chinese leader was “very positive” on all fronts, referring to the relationship between the two countries and his personal relationship with Xi Jinping as “very good.” Trump underscored that both sides recognize the importance of maintaining these relations and expressed confidence that positive outcomes would be achieved in his interactions with President Xi and the People’s Republic of China over the next three years of his presidency. Relations between the U.S. and China have been marked by tensions following Trump’s return to power, particularly due to the imposition of additional tariffs on goods from both sides. However, after a period of trade conflict, the two nations reduced some of these tariffs through negotiations. Reports indicate that Trump is set to travel to Beijing, after which Xi Jinping is expected to visit Washington.
