ANKARA: Iran and the United States are set to commence nuclear discussions on Friday in Turkey, aiming to reduce tensions and pave the way for diplomacy, Reuters reported. According to the report, Iranian Foreign Minister Sayed Abbas Araghchi and U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff will meet in Istanbul. The report also states that representatives from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, and the UAE will participate, facilitating bilateral, trilateral, and multilateral dialogues. The negotiations come amid heightened military presence by the U.S. near Iran following the crackdown on recent protests in the country. Reuters also notes that the U.S. has laid out three conditions for resuming talks: halting uranium enrichment in Iran, limiting Tehran’s missile program, and ending Iran’s support for proxy groups in the region. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Sayed Abbas Araghchi stated, “We can reach a fair and equitable agreement to guarantee the absence of nuclear weapons, and this outcome can be achieved even in the short term for both sides.”
