KABUL: Amrullah Salih, the First Vice President of the former republican government, has stated that the Taliban’s budget for 2025 is entirely focused on their military and administrative affairs rather than public interests. Documents released by Salih indicate that the Taliban’s total revenue for 2025 amounts to over 200 billion Afghanis (nearly $3 billion). According to him, 65% of these revenues are allocated solely for the Taliban’s personnel and military institutions. In his message, Salih firmly emphasized that U.S. cash assistance should be immediately halted, as this aid provides the Taliban with the courage and opportunity to spend Afghanistan’s national revenues on their fighters and administrative bodies. This comes at a time when the U.S. has been consistently transferring cash dollars to Kabul since 2021. Critics like Amrullah Salih believe that this funding allows the Taliban to utilize internal revenues for combat and organizational matters, placing the burden of the people’s suffering on the shoulders of the world.
