KABUL: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has reported rising concerns regarding the safety of children who have returned to Afghanistan. According to the organization’s report, displacement, poverty, and a large-scale return of refugees from neighboring countries are exposing refugee children to serious dangers. The agency has warned in a report that vulnerable groups, such as women, people with disabilities, and internally displaced individuals, are facing heightened risks to their safety. They have limited access to services and also face discrimination. The report indicates that prolonged displacement, economic difficulties, and an uncertain future have led to increased psychological and social pressures in Afghanistan, affecting women and children the most. UNHCR also highlighted ongoing gender-based persistent risks, stating that women and girls continue to face restrictions on movement and have limited access to safety services. The agency emphasized that the lack of financial resources and budgetary constraints has severely impacted these essential services.
