KABUL: Sun Li, China’s representative to the United Nations, has called for collaboration with the Taliban to ensure regional security. He made the remarks during a meeting focused on Afghanistan and security concerns. According to “Dawn,” the Chinese ambassador stated, “We must strengthen engagement and cooperation with Afghanistan to prevent the country from becoming a safe haven for terrorist organizations again. Together, we should prevent and counter the return and activities of foreign terrorist fighters.” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also expressed concerns during the meeting, highlighting that transnational security threats from Afghanistan could impact neighboring countries. He emphasized that no terrorist group should use Afghanistan against other countries. Reports indicate that the Taliban in Afghanistan supports the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a situation that Islamabad has repeatedly expressed concern over. Additionally, a recent explosion in Kabul targeted a restaurant owned by Chinese citizens, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals. The Chinese ambassador referenced the incident, stressing the importance of regional cooperation to combat terrorist threats.
