Trump pushes nuclear talks as Iran vows ‘historic response’

WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has urged Iran to engage in discussions regarding nuclear weapons, warning that, in his words, “if not, the next strike will be much harder.” Reuters reported that in response to this threat, Iran stated that if such an action were taken, it would deliver a “historic response.” According to the report, Trump insisted that Iran should “immediately come to the negotiating table and accept a fair deal without nuclear weapons. Time is running out.” He noted that his latest warning to Iran followed a military strike in June and claimed that “this next strike will be very severe; do not repeat this.” Previously, a White House official informed Reuters that Washington is ready to engage if Iran reaches out. This comes amid reports from Iranian state media quoting Foreign Minister Sayed Abbas Araghchi, who stated that he has had no contact with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff recently and has not requested any negotiations.
