TEHRAN: Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the leader of Iran, has been moved to an underground shelter in Tehran to mitigate the threat of a potential U.S. airstrike. The New York Post reported on Saturday night, citing local and international sources, that following the deployment of a U.S. aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf, Iranian military officials have warned of an increased likelihood of an attack. According to the report, Khamenei has delegated the daily management of government affairs to his son, Masoud Khamenei, who is now acting as the primary communication channel with the executive branch. Meanwhile, Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, and the National Security Commission of the Parliament have cautioned that any aggression towards the Iranian leader could lead to a “full-scale war.” This move by Khamenei is likened to his transfer to a shelter during the 12-day conflict with Israel last year, reflecting Tehran’s growing concern over external threats and complex internal conditions.
