KABUL: Richard Bennett, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Afghanistan, has stated that the Taliban have deprived millions of girls and women of their education. In a post on his X account, Bennett wrote that this deprivation not only affects the lives of girls and women but also has profound implications for the future of the country. He emphasized that all young people should have the right to access quality education and higher learning. January 24 is celebrated annually as International Day of Education. The statement comes amid the ongoing restrictions imposed by the Taliban since taking power in Afghanistan, which have barred girls from schools and universities.
