BERLIN: According to findings from a parliamentary investigation, of the 2,308 Afghans who have been waiting for resettlement in Germany since the Taliban’s return to power, nearly half will not be granted entry. This group includes individuals who collaborated with German institutions, their family members, as well as lawyers and journalists who are at risk from the Taliban. The coalition government led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz suspended resettlement programs for Afghans after taking office. Despite changes in policy, only 788 Afghans have managed to enter Germany, while the cases of an additional 410 individuals are still under review in the courts. Clara Bunker, a representative of the left-wing party in Germany, labeled this action as “irresponsible and inhumanly intolerable.”
