KABUL: Zarqa Yaftali, a prominent advocate for girls’ education in Afghanistan, and the historic peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan have been recognized as the winners of the 2026 “Zayed Award for Human Fraternity”. The organization in a post on its official website on Monday, highlights Zarqa Yaftali’s courageous and dedicated efforts to protect the right to education for women and children, providing educational resources and psychological support to more than 100,000 individuals in Afghanistan and beyond. Zarqa Yaftali expressed that her selection as the 2026 award winner conveys a “powerful and meaningful message” to the women of Afghanistan. The “Zayed Award for Human Fraternity” is an international award named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, given to individuals or organizations that have made outstanding contributions to peace, coexistence, human brotherhood, interfaith dialogue, and human dignity. Since its establishment in 2019, the award has recognized 19 winners from 19 countries around the world.
