Waltz warns U.S. ready to act on Iran if necessary

WASHINGTON: The U.S. representative to the United Nations has warned that President Donald Trump is committed to acting on his promises regarding Iran, emphasizing that all options are on the table to prevent bloodshed in the country. Mike Waltz stated this during an emergency Security Council meeting on Thursday, asserting that the United States stands alongside the courageous people of Iran. He highlighted that the level of violence and suppression against recent protests in Iran could have serious implications for global peace and security. Waltz dismissed Iran’s claims that the protests are part of a foreign plot, asserting that the Iranian regime is weaker now than ever, which is why it resorts to such lies. Additionally, he remarked that while the Iranian government claims to be open to negotiations with the U.S., its actions indicate otherwise. At the beginning of the Security Council meeting, which was convened at the request of the U.S., several Iranian activists also spoke.
