PUL-E-KHUMRI: Haji Baghlani, a military officer from the previous Afghan government, has been shot and killed by unidentified armed men in the province, local sources confirmed. According to sources, the incident occurred around 10 PM on Sunday, in front of his home in Pul-e-Khumri, the capital of Baghlan province. The attackers fled the scene after the shooting. Local sources add that Haji Baghlani had served in a military institution of the former government (Republic Regime) around ten years ago and had left for France illegally following the fall of that government. It is reported that his asylum request in France was accepted, and he voluntarily returned to Afghanistan about a month ago. So far, Taliban officials in Baghlan have not commented on this matter, and the motive for the killing remains unclear. This comes amid numerous reports of arrests, threats, torture, and killings of military personnel, journalists, and officials from the previous government in various provinces since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan.
